Uterine Artery Embolisation (UAE) Is A Minimally Invasive Image-Guided Procedure Performed By An Interventional Radiologist To Treat Conditions Like Fibroids By Blocking The Blood Supply To The Uterus, Causing The Fibroids To Shrink.

Local anesthesia is given and a small puncture is made in the groin (femoral artery). A catheter is inserted.

Using fluoroscopic (real-time X-ray) guidance, the catheter is advanced through the arteries to the uterine arteries on both sides.

Contrast dye is injected to visualize the uterine arteries and confirm the blood supply to the fibroids.

Embolic particles (e.g., PVA particles, microspheres) are injected to block the blood flow to the fibroids.

A repeat angiogram is done to confirm reduced blood flow and successful embolisation.

The catheter is removed and pressure is applied. The patient is monitored for a few hours and usually discharged within 24 hours.
